Brookes Mill from the church tower

On Friday 11 September almost 50 people enjoyed a pie and pea supper, then a talk by local historian and Armitage Bridge resident John Avison, who charted the development of the village through a sequence of maps.

On Saturday 12 September the church held an open day. Visitors enjoyed the architecture, learned how the building was reconstructed after the fire in 1987, and consulted the burial records to find relatives' graves. The Huddersfield Family History Society gave advice on tracing family history and led tours of the graveyard, telling the stories of some of the people buried there. Huddersfield and District Archaeological Society had a display of their work. In total, 50 people, including two children, visited during the day.

The tours reminded us that everyone, however ordinary, has a unique story to tell. Thanks to all who helped, including Bruce and Gillian Greenwood, who got us started and put together the display, Graeme Williams, who organised the supper, and the catering team.
